The New American’s Freedom Index is a Congressional Scorecard Based on the U.S. Constitution, rating congressmen based on their adherence to constitutional principles of limited government, fiscal responsibility, national sovereignty, and a traditional foreign policy of avoiding foreign entanglements. The index is a percentage based on senator’s and congressman’s voting record of bills each supported OR did NOT support.
The Independent American Party has done an extensive analysis using information from this index, which is printed twice annually. In our analysis, it was discovered that the IAP’s 15 Principles (found at the bottom of Ezra Taft Benson’s 1968 “Proper Role of Government” speech) perfectly correlate with this index, to the degree that at no time was it found that the two indexes disagreed. Hence the IAP strongly encourages citizens to explore The New American’s Freedom Index to learn what congressmen and senators are voting for.
The scriptures say “by their fruits ye shall know them” (see Matthew 7:16-20). Trust nothing that politicians say, trust what they do.
The IAP explored 10 years of Freedom Indexes, dating back to 2002, leaving out 5 indexes since these were not readily available. Hence, 15 overall indexes were used to generate a STATE RANKING of freedom based on how congressmen and senators voted. Of the 15 indexes, the average Freedom Index percentage was 39.5%. Hence if an individual state’s score is above 39.5%, this state can be considered as having senators and congressmen voting for freedom above the average.
Although there are always around 535 elected officials who vote on Bills that come before Congress (considering occasional vacancies), it was discovered that 936 elected officials were represented in our study, because of the turnover rate dating back to 2002. Of these 936 officials, 827 have voted for at least 20 Bills. The following records the top 20 freedom voters of these 827, along with the bottom 20 freedom voters.
