Lowell Attends and provides an Update on The Constitution Day Celebration with David Barton!
One, acknowledgement of a divine creator: “all men … are endowed by their Creator.”!
On October 3, 1789, in his Thanksgiving Proclamation, George Washington wrote “it is the duty of all Nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey his will, to be grateful for his benefits, and humbly to implore his protection and favor.”!
Two, unalienable rights come from God: “all men … are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights.” And these rights are bestowed antecedent (previous) to any earthly government!
Three, government exists to secure these inalienable rights: “That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men.”!
That is the proper role of government–to secure the unalienable rights of man: life, liberty, property, conscience, self-preservation, sanctity of the home, due process, trial by jury, etc!
Four, these are fixed moral laws: “the Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God.”!
(Blackstone) In nature, no species enslaves another; therefore, slavery is wrong. In nature, no species kills the unborn in the womb; therefore, abortion is wrong. And there is no confusion in nature about gender! There is male and there is female. We do find theft, murder, and adultery in nature, which is why “and of Nature’s God” (meaning the laws of God) is part of that phrase. God commanded men not to steal, not to kill, and not to commit adultery!
Five, consent of the governed: “deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed.”!
Governments only have the authority that men have. And if men do not have the authority to hurt people or take their stuff, then neither does government!
The Truth about War! – Lew Rockwell.
One, war deforms us morally!
Two, military spending deforms the economy! Most people think that war stimulates the economy!
Three, war propaganda deform our views of other people!
Four, war corrupts the culture!
Five, war distorts our sense of what service to others truly means!
Six, war distorts reality itself!
Let’s remember that the peoples of all nations are our brothers and sisters! Most people want to be left alone to live in peace! War comes because of the ambitions of those who lust for power!
Let us be strong enough to defend ourselves, but let’s not go “abroad in search of monsters to destroy.”! – July 4, 1821, Secretary of State John Quincy Adams.
