* Maine mass shooter Robert Card stopped taking his prescribed medication several months before the Army committed him to a mental hospital for two weeks, an affidavit shows.
* Card had been involuntarily committed to a mental institution in July because he was acting erratically and threatened the Army base where he was stationed. The Army also contacted the local sheriff’s department in September expressing concerns from some of their reservists that Card would “snap and commit a mass shooting,” but officers never made contact with Card and canceled an alert about his mental health issues exactly a week before he committed the mass shooting.
* DC Mayor Muriel Bowser announced she has started a pilot program that will give some drivers a tracking device to attach to their cars so they will be able to find their vehicle if it gets stolen.
The tags, which will be given to residents in six of the city’s most vehicle theft-prone areas, will be installed inside the car and will be trackable via an app on the owner’s phone. The devices appear to be Apple AirTags.
* Auto thefts in DC have increased 101% since last year, with 5,916 cars being stolen since January, police data showed. Violent crime in the city has increased 41%, while total crime has grown by 27% since last year.
